Come on, plant trees together with "Hona"

You may hear of The Mu Us Desert, if you’ve the experience of “stealing” the energy of others from to plant trees from one APP. As one of China’s four deserts, it stretches over Shaanxi Province and Inner Mongolia, covering a total area of 42,200 square kilometers.

“Wind with sand blowing all the times, bare hills and blowing yellow sand” in the spring could best depict the local environment at that time. Despite the serious blowing sand with wind, the local residents had never stopped pursing a harmonious, peaceful and idyllic environment.

China has started the ecological projects, such as protective forests and desertification control since 1990s. With the joint efforts of people caring environmental protection from all walks of life, the whole country started to improve the barren Mu Us Desert comprehensively. Hona Organic began cooperating with Shanghai Roots & Shoots sharing the same concept in 2017 on the governance of Baijitan Mu Us Desert in Ningxia.

“HONA Sustainable Green Program” is aimed to call on more people to prevent sand and protect the ecology together. According to the program, we will use certain income from each piece of organic condiment sold to plant the public forest. The Mu Us Desert is an important ecological safety barrier in North China and also where we start to implement our sustainable green development program.

Here planting is a professional issue, which also requires long-term persistence. On the edge of the desert there is a large amount of drift sand, which flies with seasonal wind. The vegetation that is just planted will be blown away by sandstorm, lowering the probability of survival seriously, letting alone prevent sand. Then our partners came up with a good and special idea: "Straw checkerboard barrier".

The objects such as straws are paved on sand evenly to divide the surface into 1×1m grids. Then the straws are inserted around these grids, all of which are connected to block wind and sand efficiently, thus yielding efficient sand prevention effect.

“HONA Sustainable Green Program” has been updated gradually along with the improvement of people’s environmental awareness and knowledge on “green” and “organic”. By the end of 2022, Hona Organic had planted non-commercial forest in area 152.8 mu that was about the area of 140 football fields; there were more than 30,000 shrubs. Every shrub on Mu Us Desert is planted by a united person of organic with the same belief and dream.

Even a small tree can resist the flying sands. Today’s Mu Us Desert has changed and improved a lot! Our actions seem insignificant compared with our country’s years of efforts in environmental protection undertakings and the generations of frontline workers in ecological construction. Shinho firmly believes we could make contributions to ecological protection as long as we keep going.
